This interdisciplinary course explores the development of civilization from Mesopotamia through Ancient Rome, while introducing students to the Italian language and culture.
Students engage in project-based learning through:
The 25-week course beginning the week of August 15th, 2027 (the exact day and time is to be determined depending on the convenience of the participating students) culminates in a 10-day cultural immersion experience in Italy (March 15-26, 2027) where students apply their learning in authentic settings. Students will gain:
$28 per class (3 hours) x 25 weeks = $700
Payable through Step Up for Students as a direct provider on the marketplace (Language Arts LLC) or through Zelle to Lindsay Conrad 339-788-3043.
A rough (likely over-estimated) cost for the Italian trip is $3,000 per student. The intention is to get the costs down as low as possible and will largely depend on the specific activities the students choose to do in each city. There will be a meeting at the beginning of the semester to discuss the possibility of the students creating a fundraising campaign to help financially support their educational experience abroad.
Each student is required to attend the 25-week foundational ancient history course in preparation for the educational trip to Italy.
One caregiver is required to travel with each student abroad. If other members of the students' families would like to join, they are welcome to travel with the group, but will likely have to make their own arrangements for activities in each city (certain tours and meals may be able to be shared and will be planned for as much as possible). The educational trip abroad is designed to be a continuation of the learning gained in the classroom and references will be made to the knowledge the students already acquired prior to traveling. Specific, age-appropriate activities will be chosen for the students, and it would be too complicated to accomodate the different age groups of family members, as well as gaps in knowledge, and would take away from the students' educational experience.
***A free, informational session regarding the 25-week course and the educational trip to Italy will be held at 2pm on Sunday, August 1, 2026 at the "Homeschool House" in Cory Lakes.***
